contd :- -2- differentiated between these different section tyres, but we realise it is difficult to follow unless one knows the whole history of the problem. The Expl: Dept's present views on well base tyres and rims are as follows :- We are now satisfied that the hydraulic dampers are going to eliminate all wobbles which are likely to occur when run under normal conditions. If there is any extreme amount of out of balance we should not expect the dampers to deal with it but it will not be necessary to balance the wheels as accurately as we have to do at present. When the hydraulic dampers have been made reliable and have been proved out (this we consider will take about 3 months), we shall not then have any fear of wobbles with the low pressure tyres and well base rims. With the present cars, we consider we are wise in not recommending the use of low pressure tyres and well base rims. In two or three months time when the hydraulic dampers are proved, this matter could be reviewed again. The above remarks apply to the Phantom. | ||
