GRY{Shadwell Grylls} 337 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} C: Hr. Ba. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} HFB. E/HDY.{William Hardy}1/HP.11.2.37. Phantom III Propeller Shaft. We send herewith N.Sch.5029 which shows the propeller shaft to be supplied to us for this car by Messrs. Hardy Spicer, and N.Sch.5032 showing the flanges on the gearbox and back axle for this shaft. A print of N.Sch.5029 has already been sent to Messrs. Hardy Spicer in order to get the matter moving. They inform us that, unlike the shaft for the Wraith, the shaft for the Phantom will not have circular flanges, partly because of this, and partly to save weight, we show the gearbox flange (the balance of which is important) machined rectangular, but the axle flange is to be left as forged around the circumference of the flange. The front flange is to be of nickel steel, but the back flange should be tried in mild steel. N.Sch.5029 N.Sch.5032. herewith. E/HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
