contd :- -3- We carried out further tests removing the cross from the frame and found that with any engine mounting this at once greatly reduced the radiator movement. Without the cross it would appear that we can without much difficulty bring the SS.{S. Smith} to the standard of radiator steadiness of 14-EX. and certainly be no worse off for steering. We are therefore preparing for your inspection at Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence two cars : (1) The best compromise we can achieve with the cross in the frame. (2) The best we can do without the cross in the frame. In the course of these tests we carefully compared 20" and 21" wheels. There is no doubt that the 20" wheels increase frame oscillations under any given set of conditions and also effect joggles on the steering adversely. Our tests on the wheels and cross have been confirmed on Dailia 17. IHS/AH. | ||
