of describing the peculiarities of the brakes quite adds to our stock of knowledge.
A description of my present view - DRB so much better than the old Central one & overheating? getting too much? we ought to tax them in a far different way.
Lord Montagu always used his side brake with his foot, which was not adjusted more than once a year.
Now if the old side brake will do this work, -- then the present footbrake must do so much larger, -- but I'm prepared to admit it may not be as perfect an article as we can get it.
B By far the reports read out alarm us with the exception of Mr Spratt's & Mr Otterwood's.
Review serious shortcomings of the old Central, conclude - it could not pull up the car in the same distance as the present brakes.
I do not consider any of the DRB complaints as bad as the complaints I can bring against the old Central, all the it was far better than the average. It suffered badly from elasticity between it & the road wheels & our more from the frying pan in & not into the fire but into another frying pan in which I think we shall be able to get out.
If for long Alpine descents - special difficulties - & almost if not quite impossible to make brakes which will stand them & long descents without disadvantage, we ought to be delighted if they are not permanently damaged by the way ordinary cars apply their brakes.
Looks at Jungfrau elect Rly & the use of a elect generator brake. I think we shall have to make quite a different attempt to cope with such work. outlines a 'compression' brake scheme (open the exh. valve on both down strokes - 2 cycle?). power absorption by such a scheme works to about horsepower absorption by suction stroke.
-- Not prepared to go back to Central without a struggle.

Wider Brakes instructed - re-bled Brakes - thought of me. some tested. I should expect that any times; Rocway & expensive braking down would arise Raybestos unless we keep the possibilities in view.

X2 Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Mer TC 1) Waldron 2) Blackshaw reports
1) Unsatisfactory - get heated & thereafter squeak. Superior in and continuous pulling up. People complain of rapid wear & jerky 'jaggering' mechanism. garbled). Defence -
2) Billy Blackshaw much prefers DRB if driven by myself -- old brakes used to make the car dance across the road. New one wears quicker, the old one was driven by some forty v clumsy they soon got hot & the other troubles. Stark & Old on much worn tyres away quicker. I've not met anyone outside RR Works whom like the new brake.

A-A (Ambrose-Taffy) Ward report - up to part lent touring - DRB
material silent, gentler, though superior to old. No periodic vibration in r.{Sir Henry Royce} axle or transm. Improved ground clearance - static pull-up, read no disadvantages. (Hot & not said Lafond Crom) Quatro brakes were used with speed & amount of use. On 2 occasions it stayed on for several seconds in emergencies & during which car was practically unmanageable. Dump all pin-fahrt (pins) on one Bell nut throughout. Grinding noise.
