Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
DERBY.

Dear Sirs,

In reply to your letter of the 9th October, we would say that the brown wax which we supplied to you has not a sharply defined melting point but softens at about 180°F.{Mr Friese} and flows at about 220°F.{Mr Friese}

We do not use this wax for impregnating condensers but only as a filling compound to seal up the condenser unit in its container.

The wax contains a quantity of metallic stearates and although we think that coil windings impregnated with it would be quite unharmed for a considerable period, we feel that there is just the possibility of a chemical action occurring when the wax is in contact with copper across which there is a comparatively high potential gradient. We therefore feel that the wax should not be used for the impregnation of coil windings without exhaustive tests to ensure that no such action does occur.

Yours faithfully,

THE TELEGRAPH CONDENSER COMPANY LTD.
