RE S S REAR AXLE

With reference to RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}2/BE26.5.28, the three sets of 11/41 ratio 1" offset Hypoid bevel gears which we have received are approximately equal to the present standard 14/52 ratio.

Since these gears were ordered, the pinion thrust unit has been modified by W.W. but since the Gleason Co. have not cut any keyways etc. in the shanks of the pinions, they can be machined up to suit the new pinion thrust units shown on N.sch: 2552 and 2562 and modified detail drawing of the pinion has been issued for this purpose the number of which is G.76868.

One point we might mention is that the Gleason Co. have made the pinion larger than intended originally, therefore it will be necessary to modify certain parts of the thrust unit to enable the larger pinion to be got in, and detail drawings covering these alterations have already been issued.

In regard to the question of having some gears corresponding to the 15/52 ratio, these should be 12/41 but we shall have to obtain some information from America before we can instruct anything, therefore it may be necessary to fit a set of the 11/41 ratio bevels on the first E.A.C.10.
