+8060 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RG.{Mr Rowledge} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} From R.{Sir Henry Royce} c/c to BJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} R4/M23.2.27. VALVE SPRINGS - F.10. AERO ENGINE & OTHERS. X.3822 X.8060 X.2993 Extremely pleased to hear that the spring with the new characteristics of high rating low max. stress shew the two excellent features of - (1) not breaking, and (2) preventing the rockers from leaving the cams. Can we not push forward these on test with a view to stopping our weakness in those we are using, both on aero engines and cars? Ought we not to call a reduction in those being made for stock, so that the valuable and necessary improvements can be made as soon as we are satisfied with the test? I say stop making low rating high stress valve springs at once, pending improvements to be standardised; at least only make just what will keep output going. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will give a list for all valve springs at present stocked, at least having part of the change, if not all. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
