P.S. I don't know whether this idea is any use to you. I expect you thought of it years ago. BYFLEET 223. PPS. I get my car back tomorrow. GRASMERE, BYFLEET, SURREY. 1st April 1935 Dear Mr Robotham, I remember that on the first occasion that I saw you at Derby, I lamented upon the fact that there was no method by which the driver could vary his rear shock dampers in relation to the front shock dampers to compensate for any variation in the loading of the car. I think you suggested that the front dampers should be fixed and that the rear only should be variable. It has since occured to me that an excellant scheme would be merely to disconnect the hand control from the front dampers. The governer would then vary the adjustment of the front and rear dampers in a constant ratio in accordance with the road speed, and the driver would have his superimposed hand control whereby he could vary the adjustment of the rear dampers in relation to the front in accordance with the load he was carrying. As the hand control would only have to be set once a journey it could be put somewhere on the dashboard; thereby reducing the number of controls on the steering wheel that the driver can play with and so giving him a chance to concentrate on his pedestrian harassing. Yours sincerely, E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Thomas | ||
