Rmy EW 604 c. to Gs. c. to Rs.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} WRAITH ENCLOSED LIMOUSINES. With reference to Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}10/KW.5.5.39., the possibility of providing more room to give increased comfort to exceptionally tall occupants of the extra seats in these bodies is being investigated. At the moment it is proposed that Park Ward shall slightly raise the shelf which provides a finish when the seat is folded away out of use. Lengthening the shelf automatically means lengthening the baseboard on which the extra seat is mounted, and as we are trying to keep this baseboard within reasonable limits so that it does not trap the feet of the occupants of the back seat, the shelf cannot be raised more than say half-an-inch. We hope also to gain a little more room in front of the extra seat. It would be simple, of course, to move the seat rearwards on its baseboard but this would mean that when folded away the seat would project more into the passenger compartment. Park Ward will try to think out special hinges to throw the baseboard, and of course the seat, rearwards as it is brought into position. If successful this device will give perhaps an inch more room in front without increasing the extent by which the seat when folding away, projects into the passenger compartment. The device which holds the shelf up or down will be recessed. We do not want to abolish it if we can help it, because it is effective and superior to the alternative ball catch which Park Ward used to employ. Incidentally, I would mention that Park Ward consider the shelf to be no thicker than it ought to be to secure rigidity. Of course we could change back to seats of the type which Thrupp & Maberly used to give us in the 25/30 Standard Pullman but this would be a retrograde step. The T. & M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} | ||
