1046 File To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}4/JH.23.2.40. FOOT BRAKE LINKAGES - LEFT HAND SENIOR RANGE. On PL.98, two sheets herewith, of which we attach two prints, we show the foot brake linkages for the left hand senior range. The whole of the brake linkages and equalisation gear remains the same as that of the right hand car having hydraulic front brakes except the foot pedal to go across the car to the servo. Although at one time a torsional shaft was considered because of its cheapness and simplicity it was found that such a shaft would have to be at least 2" in diameter if the degree of sponge were to be kept within reasonable limits. We have, therefore, used bell cranks and have arranged that the loads on the frame are placed were the rigidity of the latter is very high. Between the pedal and the servo we have reduced the diameter of the rods and size of the jaw previously .312 to .250. We do not believe we can do the same between the servo and the rear brakes. On sheet (1) we show the position of the expansion box for the twin exhaust system on left hand cars, it being assumed that the only cars we shall make in the left hand range are :- (1) 8 cylinder Silver Phantom. (2) 8 cylinder Cresta. (3) 8 cylinder Corniche. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Enclosed 4 copies of memo. 4 prints of PL.98. | ||
