DUNLOP TYRES.

During a recent visit to the Dunlop Co. Birmingham, we discussed a number of points with Mr. Paull, their axtativ developement superintendent.

TRIPLE STUD TYRES.

The present triple stud tread as manufactured by the Dunlop Co. is not giving entire satisfaction, and is therefore being modified. The modification consists in making the tread section more pointed, and continuing the non-skid pattern further down the sides of the tyres. The main reason for this is that complaints have been made that the new tread does not maintain its non-skid properties as long as the old traction tread. The opinion of the Dunlop Research Department is that this modification may affect the question of noise. The fact remains that they hope shortly to equip all their tyres, including straight-sided, with this new type of tread, though it will be obviously some little time before the changeover is complete, and consequently traction tread will be available for a considerable period.

6.75" BALLOON TYRES.

We were not able to obtain much information as to why this size of tyre was better than the 6.00" high high speed wobbles. The main point appeared to be that the 6.00" is designed to be run at a very high inflation pressure, actually 47 lbs/sq.in. on the Phantom, and to obtain more
