With reference to recent correspondence on the subject on dimmers for head lamps, I think the best scheme for both companies is that used by Mr. Hives on his experimental car 4.EX.

This car has two small side lamps on the front mud guards. This arrangement takes care of the English requirements that the side lamps shall define the full width of the chassis, also the American requirements that the car when standing shall show lights at the extreme front and rear.

Mr. Hives tells me that two lamps rather larger than those fitted on 4.EX are being made up by Lucas for inspection and approval at Derby.

If we may have drawings of these at an early date, we can doubtless have something essentially the same manufactured in this country, thus preserving the same arrangement of sizes on the English and American chassis, and simplifying the wiring and the arrangement of the switch box as compared with the alternative scheme of fitting dimmers to the head lamps.
