SQUEAKING BRAKES ON 20 HP.

On the 25th June, I was discussing the many complaints we were receiving concerning squeaky brakes on the 20 HP. with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, and he stated that he was experimenting with a new design to overcome this trouble.

Since then we have had further complaints from customers, and I have now heard from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} that the damper fitted to the 'India' is considerably more effective than that fitted to the 20 h.p. cars. He stated, however, that it is not easy to fit this damper to existing cars. Not only does it mean turning down the brake drums, but it also means extensive alterations to the aluminium protecting cover for the brakes. He believes it would be possible, if you approve, to modify the damper fitted to 'India' cars so that it could easily be applied to existing 20 h.p. cars.

He also stated that the squeaking problem is always receiving attention. For instance, this week they have received some new type braking material from Messrs. Ferodo which they claim will prevent squeaking, but the Works have not very great confidence in their claims.

We should be obliged if you would consider the matter of whether anything can now be done to deal with cars which have been delivered, to overcome the complaints of squeaky brakes.
