-2- S.S.5. from 21-EX. Original setting 16.8 volts. Ran a few thousand miles. Switch coil connected to terminal B of distribution board after a time. Present setting 18.0 volts. S.S.6. from 23-EX. Original setting 16.8 volts. Ran a small mileage on car. Present setting 17.6 volts. It will be seen that all the green lamp switches have acquired a higher setting with use. The tendency with green lamp and auto switches made from cut-out parts has usually been to go down in setting. On examining the green lamp switches above, they were found to stick somewhat in the 'off' positions. This appears to be due to the use of steel for the stop adjusting unit which, after a little running, probably beds down through the plating at some spot to a good magnetic contact, thus causing the stiction. The effect is not due to varnish etc. On inserting a thin paper washer the sticking effect vanished and the gap had to be increased from .010" to .014" to give the same operating voltage. The point will be automatically met in the modification for auto switch operation since the 'off' stop in that case is the adjustable contact point. EFC. | ||
