S. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Grylls Esq.,
Messrs Rolls Royce Ltd.,
Derby.

Dear Mr. Grylls,

We are very concerned about the sample bush and deposit which Mr. Russell Sharp has brought back from Derby as the MOBILOIL EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} (marked Plus 2) has given extremely satisfactory results in some fairly severe tests carried out at the Austin Motor Company, and we had hoped that it would meet your requirements in every way.

Certainly we have had no rusting trouble of any kind and the appearance of the steel bush gives us the impression of the possible presence of moisture, but this is a matter which the Chemists must settle.

We have never come across any case where corrosion on steel was important, particularly where there is no action on the bronze of the synchromesh cones, and this makes the result of your test doubly puzzling.

I was sorry to be out of London at the time of your call, as I would like to have seen the gearbox and discussed the whole position with you personally, but I feel that when the analyses are through I would like to come up and go through the matter in detail.

Yours very truly,

O.T. Jones
