FRONT DAMPERS.

We received the uncontrolled damper valve parts and fitted them yesterday in accordance with your memos Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HFP.5/MH.{M. Huckerby}26.7.39 and Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HFP.II/MH.{M. Huckerby}28.7.39.

We found the leak holes through the aluminium rivets blocked or partially blocked. The refill valve seats of the nearside damper were hammered as previously reported on the offside.

We cleaned up the splines as well as we could and thoroughly cleaned out the dampers, but when trying them for poundage the leak seemed to be terribly variable.

Will you please send us a new valve holder, the small tube in which the valve works. We cannot find a piece nomber but it can be identified by being 0.344" diameter X 0.675" long with a raised lip near one end. This seized in the damper body while the valve was being screwed in and twisted off. We have knocked the broken piece which contains the seat, into its correct position so the valve is working, but may not stay put.
