Headlamp & Wing Movement on the Bentley.

Further to HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Ha.14/KW.11.10.34, we have now improved our measuring apparatus for detecting lamp and wing movement.

The more recent figures obtained have confirmed our initial results, except that we now say in some circumstances the single piece wings can reduce the headlamp movement slightly.

We have a bumper bar that is the right size, made in Messrs. Wilmot-Breeden's standard manner, and this we have fitted to Fairey's car. We recommend that if any bumper bars are being fitted to Bentleys they should be of this type, or if any cars are considered to be too bad for wing and headlamp movement they should have this bumper fitted. In the meantime we are getting a bumper bar made to the modifications schemed by the Design Dept., and shall proceed with endurance running on it as soon as it is available.

We consider that the alteration made to B-11-BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} Mr. Fairey's chassis may be taken as being representative of what can be expected on the Bentley.

The Design Dept. have also completed schemes for centrally mounted radiator and front wings, and these will be proceeded with. As it seems probable that this scheme will enable us to do without the bumper bar it seems questionable whether we should standardise 30 lbs. additional weight which we may shortly be able to do without. On the other hand, there is the question of the increasing traffic density which may be making bumpers imperative. We should like the opinion of Sales on this point.
