X.4293a To B.J. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to C.J. c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X.4293 RE CHASSIS MODELS. We have to-day sent to the London Office four models of the new chassis. These models comprise :- (1) Standard 40/50 H.P. (2) "Buzzard" with its short engine and ample room on chassis. (3) "Vulture" with its longer six-cylinder engine. (4) "Goshawk" 2nd. "Goshawk 2nd" was found to have the windscreen too narrow, and therefore not to our instructions. It will be noticed that all of the new models are intended for central change speed lever, and we are careful not to make the body too narrow in front of the front seats. The models are as received from Derby, which is very rough in the paint, as if we had not a proper painting staff, or a proper foreman over the painters. The paint is put on too thickly, instead of thin sparing coats, slightly rubbed down after drying between the coats. In our packing to send these to London we have used a much lighter case for all the four models, packing them with strips of wood fixed with screws, which can be easily removed without causing damage. The lid{A. J. Lidsey} is also screwed on. We recommend Derby to use well constructed, but light packing cases, to avoid excess of carriage, and with any valuable contents to screw the lids and wedge pieces in position, so that they can be easily removed. This used to be our universal practice at Royce Limited. R | ||
