BODIES FOR E.A.C.II.

With reference to RG{Mr Rowledge}/M25.7.24, we shall be most interested to try one of these cars, fitted with a new form of change gear and side levers, shorter steering column and the pedals close together, so that we may know how they are likely to affect our customers.

Perhaps you will be good enough to arrange for a car, when fitted with these alterations, to be sent to us for the purpose.

We are not ordering any bodies for E.A.C.II in view of the alterations you have suggested, and I understand you will be good enough to arrange for drawings of suitable sports bodies to be sent to us for this purpose as soon as possible.

We understand Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is anxious to have some such bodies at an early date to start testing the E.A.C. cars with bodies such as will be supplied to customers, as this gives a very much better opportunity of forming an opinion of the chassis than trying the chassis with makeshift bodies.

The body drawing which you brought to London was returned to you last week, and in view of the alterations we have not ordered these bodies.

We note that Mr. Evernden will be in London during the next few days, and that he will be visiting coachbuilders during his holiday. We presume it is very clear to Mr. Evernden that he must on no account show any drawings to, or talk to coachbuilders about the E.A.C.II chassis or dimensions. We are taking great care that no hint shall be given to any coachbuilder that we are about to introduce any altered shape of chassis, so as to prevent their obtaining any hint that we may be producing a new chassis, which would undoubtedly prevent their ordering any more of the present chassis from us.
