Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/WSt X6137 To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to R.{Sir Henry Royce} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/WSt re Chassis Lighting Switches. Mr. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} of. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}/1/E34. .32 Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/WSt.5/AD.22.7.32 I do not remember previously hearing that it was contemplated having the lighting switches on top of the steering column. It has, however, been definitely suggested by me that the dimming control switch should be on the steering column as it is on the majority of cars. I am sure that any one who has driven a car with the dimming control in that position has found it extraordinarily convenient and simple to operate. The foot control may be ideal in many directions but experience shows us that it is very expensive. It was on this account that I recommended we should have the dimming control on the wheel plus the fact that the sales people agree that that is where the majority of purchasers would prefer to have it.
