LANCIA LAMBDA HYDRAULIC DAMPERS. X4048

In a previous report was given a description of the action of the Lancia front hydraulic dampers.
The following contains experimental results we have obtained shewing the extent of the damping under various working conditions.

As remarked before the "damping" results from fluid resistance and pressure and, due to its construction, it is unequal in action, i.e. more resistance being offered to rebound than to positive deflection, resulting from a bump.

Static tests were useless because the resistance to motion, or oscillation, depended upon the speed of operation of the plunger in the cylinder. Consequently the following method of testing was evolved, which gave the equivalent condition of various impulses of the plunger.

Briefly the apparatus was arranged as indicated in the adjoining sketch.
