We have had this phenomenon on Experimental cars, but it has never appeared consistently. On the P.III we had very uneven tyre wear on one test for 7 or 8,000 miles, it then disappeared. We are inclined to think that excessive 'toe-in' will cause abnormal tyre wear. We think that the simplest way of proving the point is to work on the car belonging to the customer who has made the complaint that his tyres will not last. We recommend that in cases of excessive tyre wear, the front wheels are set parallel and the results observed. We are sure that this will give an answer in less time than if we carried out experiments on our own cars. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
