TO BY FROM AJS. Copy to - HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8300 AJS1/M10.6.25. EAC. CLUTCH STOP. We send herewith drawing LeC. 2080. shewing a simpli-fied form of the above, in which we have done away with the spring holding the braking flange up against the collar on clutch shaft. This spring is one which was milled from the tube, and was retained by a locking wire on clutch shaft. It is now intended that the braking flange, which has a 1 in 20 taper bore should be held in its forward position purely by friction on its conical seating, the drive being taken through the keys. You will note that we have altered the number of keys from 10 to 12 on the driving sleeve carrying the coupling. This is so that we can carry through four of them for the clutch brake flange. Mr. Royce considers this the most desirable number. In addition to eliminating the milled spring, the other reason for our alteration of this part is that on EAC.V11. the driving sleeve attached to coupling will have to come for-ward considerably and take up a position permanently inside the rear end of the adjustable clutch stop member, owing to the fabric coupling and clutch being considerably closer to one another in this case, and it being necessary to have a certain amount of control on the driving sleeve.
