R.R. 498a (50 M) (D.D. 31. 12-6-25) J.H.D. EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. -6- Expl. No. REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RmL/LG231025 is not used to the car a feeling of insecurity and uncertainty. These brakes are not as good as those of the Studebaker of similar design. The steering did not appear to be affected by braking, there was however not very much braking on the front. Every time the brake pedal was depressed, a definite gear growl occurred apparently due to the servo oil pump teeth coming under load. This was audible even in the back of the car. As a matter of interest, No.6. cyl. sparking plug oiled up during the test run and had to be removed and cleaned. The man with the car however, asserted that this was a rare occurrence. GENERAL IMPRESSION. We cannot see that we are likely to learn anything from this car with regard to :- Engine silence. Engine flexibility. Engine efficiency. Gearbox silence. Suspension. Braking. Lightness of steering. The points leaving a favourable impression are :- Clutch operation. Steering - freedom from road shocks. --------------------------- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
