COMPLETED 8.12.37. RR 755 (10H) (49988) 19/10/37 C.E.Co. PHANTOM III STANDARDISATION OF PARTS Date Issued: 2.11.37. Sheet No. P.3. Drg. No. G.85649/50. G.85651. L.O.P.S. Description: REMOVAL OF KEYS AND KEYWAYS FROM REAR BELL CRANK LEVERS. Purpose: To save cost. Brief Report and Remarks: Has run 17,000 miles on 32-EX and no cars are built in the experimental with keys. The Key takes no drive and the interference fit ensures that the bell crank does not slip on the spindle. At present we have both an interference fit and the keys, and one of these precautions is unnecessary. When recommended for Introduction: Without scrap. Report References: By Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}, By Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Old Parts: Material £0.4.4., Labour £0.6.2., Burden £0.10.10., Total £1.1.4. New Parts: Material £0.4.1., Labour £0.5.5., Burden £0.9.6., Total £0.19.0. Decrease in Cost £ 0.2.4. G/Rb.{R. Bowen} 18.11.37. Production Position and Comments: Cost of Tools £ NIL. Deletion of key facilitates assembly and reduces chassis cost by 2/4d. Could be introduced at 10th chassis in "D" series without scrap levers or pins. Keys G.81905 to the value of 40/- are in stock for "D" series, but cost of these would be recovered after producing 17 chassis without keyways. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} 23.11.37. Authorisation to Proceed. Introduce on the 10th Chassis in D Series. Signature Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Date 7/12/37. Signature Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
