As the cast iron case, FB.4717 has been widened to allow the pistons to drop in without filing the shaft bush flanges, the reservoir volume has been increased, and a further increase is unnecessary. Pistons. The pistons FB.4608 and the replenishing valves, FB.4609, are to be made in T/Z material to avoid scoring of the seatings by small particles of grit. The gudgeon pin, FB.3420, is an interference fit in the piston of .002" to .0025". This prevents the pin moving sideways and does not distort the piston when assembled. Shaft and levers. There is no need for the shaft, FB.4726 to be a tight fit in the rocking lever, FB.4725, as the pinch bolt is quite capable of nipping it up tight enough. When assembling into the damper casing the shaft should push right home by hand as otherwise metal may be dislodged which might cause trouble in the valve. The ends of the knurlings on the shaft must be sharp so that they will broach the outside lever, and the rocking lever cleanly. Oil Seals. It is important that great care be taken during assembly to avoid damaging the oil seals as otherwise they may leak. A nose piece should be used to guide the shaft through. Valve. It is important that the whole damper be kept as clean as possible, as dirt may eventually cause valve trouble. | ||
