-2- Hardness Tests. Brinell tests below the surface of the wire. Ball: 2 m.m. Load. 120 Kg. Brunton's : 461 Shipman's : 435 Salter's : 388 Vickers tests on surface or wire. Ball : 1 mm. Load 30 Kg. Brunton's : 325 Shipman's : 354 Salter's : 368 The lower figures obtained with the smaller impressions on the surface of the wire are roughly in accordance with the degree of decarburisation. Slag inclusions, etc. In the Shipman's sample there was a slight tendency for the slag particles to be in cluster formation, but otherwise the samples were free from abnormal inclusions. No seams were found in any of the samples. Hl. HE. Photomicrographs No.s. A1,100/1 to HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
