Y4553 E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} RI/MIO. 8.32. C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} HDY.{William Hardy} re. BENSPORT. Owing to the supercharger now being in front of the engine, and the difficulties with the pedals, we have decided to increase the wheelbase from 10 ft. to 10 ft. 6ins, rather than push the radiator forward, or raise the transmission line, as I understand is suggested by Derby. One reason for the above is that it would be very un-Bentley like. This car will ride and steer better for the rather longer wheelbase: it is not intended for much town work. It is understood that the smaller and longer Powerplus is to be used, and that this needs the eccentricity below the centre. The front axle is being arranged just in front of the blower, and the cross steering tube just under the same on the bump. This steering is only partly guarded by the axle. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
