Proposing a test for a longitudinal steering tube with spring buffers for the Goshawk project.

Owing to some investigations we have been making at W.W. I have come to the conclusion that there is hope for good in a longitudinal steering tube which has spring buffers to permit of shocks lengthening it about .5", and no flexibility to permit of shortening. Therefore please make a test with inner seatings for the spheres solidly fixed in the tube at each end, and spring buffers with .25 movement at each outer end, instead of the spring buffers having only a small allowable movement each way. The strength of the spring is a matter for trial - I imagine 50 lbs. to 100 lbs. R. {Sir Henry Royce} | ||
