TELEGRAMS CARVAUX, TELEX, LUTON WHEN REPLYING PLEASE QUOTE → OUR REF: AT/SEE YOUR REF: 4th. April 1938 W.A.Robotham Esq., Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd. DERBY. Dear Robotham, I am mortified by the tabulation I enclose. Nevertheless I am sure that if you make a side valve job yourself you would not equal your overhead valve job. I feel that the work we have done, though not supported by Proving Ground facts, does support the statement I made, that overhead valve engines are better than equal design side valve. I am sending under separate cover one sample mechanical rocker arm self adjusting. I am enclosing detail drawings for your confusion, of the above rocker arm. I have just received a lot of data from the General Motors Research which amounts to a public disgrace of myself for my childish and innocent belief in velume distribution. The four wise men of the General Motors Research have decided you must use an indicator and single cylinder engine. Meanwhile nine years have rolled by since we discarded that method. We are continuing with our forecasts of combustion chamber data. By the way I should like to work with you fellows on this, if only to show you that "forecasting" can be done. Controversely yours, | ||
