Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X4199 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BJ. Copy to GWB. Accident to 15-EX. BJG/E17.4.28 The following is an extract from a letter received from R.{Sir Henry Royce} this morning:- "Unless something is found to the contrary, I am of the opinion that the chief cause was the wet road & worn tyres, increased by cambered surface, & light load for the large dia. of tyres. We have all had many back wheel skids more or less fortunate, but never had any real trouble arising from the steering, and unless something was wrong with the steering i.e. broken or seized; the figures given are the best we know, it is less slow than others and less flex. than our standard or Hispano, the only thing I can question is the amount of damping friction on the front axle system, this is the part that reduces the exact steering i.e. for direction, but it cannot as far as I can see have any bearing on the accident, in fact all the features in this steering are even slightly more so in that we have been using here for 8000 miles, over running over 70 on straight pieces."
