1305 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}2/MH.{M. Huckerby} 15th. June 1938. The English Steel Corporation, Vickers Works, SHEFFIELD. For the attention of Mr.Gray. Dear Sirs, Coil Springs for Car Suspension. Mr. Bailey, our Chief Engineer, wrote to you recently suggesting a carburizing treatment in a cyanide both for removing the decarburization on the surface of our springs. (Letter ref. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} JJ/G.12.5.38). We have on order from you eight springs FB.3826 and we should be glad to know if this treatment would be satisfactory for them. If so, we could so treat these springs on arrival here. We have had a laboratory report recently which states that our Phantom III coil springs, which give us no trouble, are much more free from decarburization than the coil springs of the type now on order: it is therefore clear that we shall have to reduce the amount of decarburization on the latter. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
