To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} C. 4260 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/M10.6.25. RE. BODY SUBFRAMES - X.8380 X.8840 40/50 and 20 HP. X.5380 X.9770 X.4260 Thank you for your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LGS.6.25., re car 9-PK. This car is now at the coachbuilders undergoing modifications as a result of our tests, and should be ready for us to let you have in the course of a few days. We have asked LHS.{Lord Herbert Scott} to try the car before sending it to you, especially requesting him not to criticise the chassis. Since the tests on subframes, are very urgent what we feel is that unless you have an EAC. chassis to which you can fit this body, we would prefer to leave it on 9pk. rather than it should be taken off Ex and stood on one side. We would mention that the following bodies fitted with subframes will require 40/50 chassis :- Barker enclosed limousine (completed) 'B' type long. Hooper " " ( " ) 'C' " " Barker cabriolet ( " ) 'D' " short. Barker/Beaton all-weather for FHR. 'D' " short. We think that in future all 10,000 miles cars where possible should be fitted with subframe bodies as we are anxious now to get the tests on subframes completed. We think that the tests on the 'India' subframe should run parallel with those on the 40/50 and we would like to make a 20 HP. body on the revised subframe for a 10,000 miles trials. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} has practically all the information except designs for the sloping footboards, which we will send in a day or so. The body we think should be either a cabriolet or an open car, since this would most severely test the strength of the frame. Would 'C' kindly let us know what we can do.
