R.R. 199 (250T) (SD576 19-7-17) M/180S6S Contd. -2- EFC1/T21.11.22. indication appears to be of magnitude nearly 1 milliampere. The effect is there and we do not think that so small a current as 1/10 m.a. will give any reading. It would therefore appear that the electrostatic effect through the case is a good deal larger than the leak. This, of course, does not necessarily imply losses unless hysteresis exists, though it seems highly probable that the effect with this material must be accompanied by loss. (4) We are preparing for the experiment asked for in your telegram of yesterday, from which we understand that the new vertical centre line of the coil case is to be 4 1/2" distant from the vertical centre line of the ignition tower and at the same time to be in the plane of the wheelcase joint. (5) We have taken figures of resistance of the coil in the standard position with a view to arriving at the temperature in this manner. (6) Whilst trying the leakage experiment, we also tried in the same way the leakage to the core, but this was too small for observation. (7) The coil referred to in No.(1) of our last report EFC1/T18.11.22 is giving quite good results on the road. Two more similar coils are being made up for trial on other chassis and on the bench.
