Dear Mr. Robotham,

Your letter of Nov. 12th. has been passed to me; my brother being away. Here-with the answers to your questions re. Girling Brakes:-

(1) We have had absolutely no trouble in service with the wedge. We have found in some cases, that the wedge becomes slightly indented, where it makes contact with the rollers. The maximum depth of this indentation is about one thou., and in this condition, it altered the wedge angle locally by about one degree. This, however, made no appreciable difference in the operation of the brake.

We are enclosing a wedge taken from a front brake of the first car we ever fitted with Girling Brakes. This job had done about 10,000 miles. In this particular case you will see that there is practically no indentation, presumably due to a rather thicker case. We make these wedges out of a straight case hardening steel with, of course, a very low core brinell, so that
