1326 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E/Pen. E.1/HP.11.9.35. re Rolls-Royce Spanners. When the reversion took place to double ended jaw spanners for car tool kits in the beginning of 1932, we went back to spanners with very large heads in which the profile is unnecessarily heavy, and exceeds that arranged for the single ended design of Rolls-Royce spanner. The comparison of F.51936 with F.2894 for the 1/2" size shows this clearly. At the same time the thickness of the spanner head is also probably greater. As these big spanner heads are found to be a serious disadvantage, and at the same time are a source of useless weight I should be glad to know if you would agree to producing some double ended spanners with heads similar to those in outline and thickness designed for the single ended type.
