| To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X35D Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}3/KW.12.11.35. 33-EX. Steering. As a result of information we have obtained from the Packard car, we wish to make some modifications to the above steering as follows :- (1) Use a standard length pendulum lever (7" long) instead of the 8" previously instructed. (2) Preload the bearings of the cam so that, without the rockershaft, there is a friction of 1 1/2 to 2 lbs. at the rim of the steering wheel. (3) Adjust the meshing of the roller follower with the cam so that in the central position the friction at the rim of the steering wheel is increased to 2 1/2 - 3 lbs. (4) Preload the bearings of the roller follower so that it can comfortably be turned by hand. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/F.J.Hardy. | ||
