REAR END OF P.2. WHEN NO
REAR SPARE WHEEL IS FITTED.

At the request of SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} early this year we took steps to clean up the appearance of the car when a type 4. grid and no spare wheel is carried at the rear.

(1) We sent you N. sch. 3028. shewing a revised gauge fitting on the petrol tank to match the filter fitting. We have not seen a model of this.

(2) We have agreed to a large tank being used (see LF.1439.) This tank extended to the rear chassis crossmember. It was finally decided that, as a special tank for type 4. would cost a lot of money, we would prefer to use a standard tank, and to utilise the space between the tank and the rear chassis crossmember for a toolbox, covering the whole with an apron, to be supplied by the coachbuilder.

(3) We have partly designed a luggage grid to fold up against the back of the body. The present grid is made largely from pieces of the grid for use behind the spare wheel, hence its not wholly good appearance. At SG{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s request we are setting out a grid consisting of 2 folding arms as fitted by RRAI. on P.1. for you to try.

In the past we have been told by our coachbuilders who have made and fitted such grids, that they are only suitable for a special trunk bolted on, and not for odd sizes of cabin trunks, as such a grid has no cross-bars. A design willfollow as soon as possible.
