THE SOCIETY OF MOTOR MANUFACTURERS AND TRADERS, LTD. 2. This procedure has been accepted by the local agents, but they still protest that the standard is far too high. The authorities are prepared to consider a reduction of the standard, provided a sufficiently good case can be made out for such a reduction. They point out, however, that 70% braking efficiency on a machine test is required by the licensing authorities in the United States of America for all vehicles, and that there is no recognised standard in the United Kingdom. The authorities state that although they are using an American Weaver Machine, they would prefer a British mechanical test, and enquire whether any British Brake Tester carries the approval of the British Vehicle Manufacturers. An authoritative opinion is required as to a reasonable standard of braking efficiency and as to the fairest methods of measuring such efficiency, and I should be glad to have your views. Yours faithfully, A.{Mr Adams} W. GRAFTON, Assistant Secretary. To British Vehicle & Brake Manufacturers and Brake Technical Committee. | ||
