The next experiment suggested was that we should try the same series winding in circuit with the lamps as originally suggested. This does not appear to be as complicated as it was feared because one feels that the wiring from the switch on its way to the headlamps could pass the 2 special terminals on the dynamo only taking care that the current went round the dynamo field in the right direction. There would be no more wiring to speak of on the chassis and the 2 terminals on the dynamo would not be a serious matter. The current would be approximately 8 amperes. Now this extra current would have rather a different characteristic to the current charging the accumulators because owing to the resistance of the lamps falling with temperature it would be much more constant than when going to the accumulator, and it may give us exactly what we want, replacing the two charge scheme, and really being simpler than that scheme and its extra resistance.
