In dealing with the question of Water Boiling on the Swiss Alps, which I reported to you in my memo EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}4/H8.10.21, the following are further points in connection with this matter:-

1. As regards the test reported on by Allen, showing that the high compression engine did not overheat as much as the low compression engine. Paris now report that they are of the opinion that the improvement is not due to the engine running faster, but due to being able to run the engine with less throttle.

2. In regard to other makes of cars also giving trouble in this district, Paris point out that their man reports from information gained at garages in the district, that practically all makes of cars boiled except the Fiat.

3. Paris express strong opinion that all engines for Switzerland should be high compression, fitted with thermostat control and bonnets louvered.
It has been agreed that the high compression engines, thermostat control, and small fan pulley should be fitted for cars in this district, but nothing has been done with regard to louvered bonnets. As a matter of fact we have not recommended same, but this point appears to be a feature requiring consideration, and I think is a point which should be brought up by Hr. at the next Works Conference.
