To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X7280. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL.1/WJ.14.5.30. PHANTOM 11 STARTING CARBURETTER WITH FIXED MAXIMUM RESTRICTION LEC.2731. Preliminary tests carried out on the fixed maximum restriction starting carburetter indicate that the maximum restriction hole in the nozzle should be .031" in diameter. Owing to the small size of hole required in the nozzle it is not possible to obtain a good seating of the needle valve; also the taper on the needle is too fast to give a reasonably selective adjustment on the needle. The taper should be altered to 30°. Will BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} please detail and issue experimentally modified needles and nozzles somewhat on the lines indicated in the attached sketch, which should give a good 30° needle valve seating and retain the necessary .031" maximum restriction hole.
