Dear Sirs,

We have now completed our investigations regarding the cost figures of producing valves from your forgings, and find that they do represent some saving on our present method of valve production.

The next step, therefore, is to aquire some sample valves from you trial.

As the size of our valves (EW.1429) and (E.61299) is very olose to the size of the samples you have submitted to us, we assume that you will be able to produce trial valves for us out of existing dies and leave the necessary surplus material for our machining. If you are in agreement with this as being satisfactory, will you please produce 6 valves to EW.1429 in your own material 7.5/8.5% chrom, 6 to E.61299 in KB.965 and 6 to E.61299 in your alternative material 18.00/20.00% chrom.

Will you please say in your reply what the most of these sample valves will be.

Talking to your Mr.Wimhurst on his last visit regarding push rods, we understand that the fact of having to jump up both ends of the rod makes the cost much greater than if it were necessary to jump one end only.

Bases on this, we enclose a print EW.1690 of a push rod with one end only jumped up, and would like your quotation for batches of 1000 and 5,000 in the material stated namely S/ZN.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS_ROYCE LIMITED.
