Y1509 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}2/AD. November 23rd, 1931. Messrs. W.H. Colt, Ltd. Bush House, Aldwych, W.C.2. Dear Sirs, Your letter WHC/KH/K.{Mr Kilner} of the 12th inst. has been handed on to us by Mr. Lappin. We have to thank you for the pair of bonnet ventilators; these will be fitted up to a car and tested out as soon as an opportunity occurs and you will be advised in due course of the results of our tests. With regard to fans, we would take this opportunity of saying that the design of the fan on both our cars was only arrived at after a very large number of prolonged and careful tests. Before we send you a complete fan of each type we should like to see the results of tests on the type you propose to let us try out. We shall be interested to know if you can give us more air without increasing the horse power required to drive the fan. You will appreciate that there is a limit to the driving power of the flexible belt, after which slipping occurs and any advantage given by the increased efficiency of the fan cannot be used. The maximum speeds at which our car fans are normally called upon to run are - 20/25 HP. car - 4280 R.P.M. (at 70 M.P.H.) Phantom II " - 3920 R.P.M. (at 90 M.P.H.) Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
