X4256 TO GV. [EP. {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} struck through] from Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} There is one remark in your long memo. on the incomplete state of Goshawk chassis, dated the 29th Sept. that I feel ought to be pointed out as incorrect. You state that some of the 20 chassis had not the correct axle gear ratio, and you give the reason that this was done for the convenience of manufacture. This, so far as I am aware, is not correct, it would have been quite as convenient for the axle gear ratio to have been anything, if we had been instructed to make it such. I trust that you will correct this impression, especially as it has gone to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town. I am perfectly aware that all at the Works quite understand that it would have been quite as convenient to have built up 13 tooth or all 14 tooth axles, if they had been instructed, but West WitteringHenry Royce's home town will not understand this, and consequently I hope you will make this correction.
