10. Exhaust Suspension.

This continues to give trouble owing to squeaks and rattles from the spring loaded supports.
Following the adoption of a rubber suspension on Wraith a scheme suitable for Ph.III. has been designed and is being detailed for test.

11. Engine pressure oil filter.

The filter element collapses in service and has to be replaced.
A scheme for re-inforcing the element has been designed and requires making and testing.
GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} will arrange to examine filters on cars coming into Depots to ascertain:
(a) What mileage is run before filters collapse.
(b) Should we recommend filters be cleaned oftener than every 10,000 miles, as at present.

12. Suspension.

There are complaints of uncomfortable riding in rear of car due to certain road surfaces causing rear axle "patter".
The hydraulic damper is incapable of dealing with small spring deflections, which appear to result in a lateral movement or "sideways shake".
It is considered that some means of damping small road spring movements is required. At the moment the only palliative is to keep the side clearance of spring shackles to a minimum.

13. Tyres.

N. again raise the question of tyres wearing out at a mileage of 5000 to 6000. Low tyre mileages are to some extent an indication of how a car is driven. Fast cornering will cause undue wear. The question of using larger tyres has had consideration and they have been turned down owing to definite disadvantages for instance, increased tendency to low speed wobble.
