-7- The construction used with the semi-floating axle and bolt on wheels enabled the drums to be removed in a fraction of the time required with the present design. The brake shoes were also more easily dismantled than the R.R. type, A big saving in service should therefore be obtained. ~~The system was entirely free from thumps and clicks on release. This constituted a most noticeable and desirable advance on any of our previous braking systems, and was due to the hydraulic damper on the front brakes. This is inexpensive in itself, and enables all friction dampers, air dash pots and rubber off stops to be deleted, none of these having proved completely effective.~~ ~~The pedal was not effected by rear axle movements while braking nor did the axle hop when the rear brakes locked. This was due to the long arm equaliser and also constitutes a marked improvement over our previous brake systems.~~ ~~The hand brake was effective in action and conveniently placed. It was more powerful than present Bentley. The pull off spring fitted prevented any chattering on the metal off stop and rubber is not required here.~~ Suspension System. ~~8" nominal S.D. front road springs. E.S.C. cadmium plated coil springs.~~ ~~7" nominal S.D. rear road springs. Toledo Woodhead with American interleaving with toughened ends.~~ ~~Front suspension LOP.FB.3548. Completely rubber insulated from frame by silentbloc bushes in upper end of yokes and inner end of lower levers, rubber spherical bearing at rear of torque arms, and rubberised washers for coil springs.~~ ~~Temporary built up type rear spring shackles with threaded pins front and rear of rear springs.~~ ~~rubber mountings for rear springs as on P.III and Wraith incorporating FCD.787 mod. to top shield for rubber pad.~~ ~~Front shock dampers LOP.FB.3485. Twin bore type with side valves.~~ ~~Rear shock dampers LOP.FB.3979. FCD.677.~~ ~~R.R. type incorporating connecting links with Silentbloc top bearings and Delco type rubbers at lower ends.~~ ~~Front stabiliser 0.887" dia. roll rod ex Oldsmobile.~~ | ||
