The AUTOVAC Patent SELF-DRAINING FLOAT (Higginson and Arandel's Patent) Sectional view showing Self-Draining Float in operation if punctured AUTOVAC This invention, now a standard fitting to all Autovacs, provides a simple and efficient means for ensuring that the FLOAT in the Autovac operates even if punctured. A hollow stem is fitted to the FLOAT in which is drilled two small holes, one at the bottom of the stem, inside the FLOAT, and a corresponding hole at the top of the stem, outside the FLOAT. If petrol should leak in the FLOAT it will automatically be evacuated from the FLOAT during the suction period of the apparatus, and during the periods of atmospheric pressure air will flow into the FLOAT to take the place of the evacuated petrol, thereby enabling the FLOAT to function as when airtight.
