My dear Robotham,

You will recollect when Mr. Spurrier and myself called upon you some little time ago at Derby, you asked whether any tests had been carried out on the Wellworthy pistons embodying the slight modification to the combustion chamber which you had suggested.

I would advise you that this test has been completed in our Research Department, and as far as we can see no material benefit has been derived. The main thing that came out of the test was that ignition became very sensitive, but the power output did not appear to be in any way improved.

I do not know whether you can give me any further information as to what tests you yourselves carried out on this piston before the test is finally abandoned at Leyland, but any information you can let me have would be interesting as a completion of the work which we have commenced.

I believe I also promised to send you a copy of our crankshaft report for perusal, and whereas I thought this had been done, I now find it was never forwarded to you, and I am taking this opportunity of enclosing a copy herewith. I would like you to treat this as strictly confidential and for your own information, and let me have it back for file as soon as possible.
