Messrs Ferodo Ltd.,
CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH.

For the attention of Mr.Longley and Mr.Shilton.

Dear Sirs,

We should like to thank you for the courteous reception extended to the writer yesterday.

Concerning the various matters then discussed the following points can be made:-

(1) We generally get customer's complaints of brake squeak between 8,000 and 12,000 miles running of the chassis.

(2) The chassis' brakes on leaving these Works do not squeak and therefore when new there is nothing wrong with either Ferodo or brake gear in this respect.

(3) Some alteration occurs in the first 10,000 miles running to cause brake squeak.

(4) The alteration may be in the Ferodo or in the remainder of the brake gear, including brake drums.

(5) Renovation of the brake gear, i.e. fitting new drums and taking up any slack that may have developed, does not cure squeaking once the bedding of the brake is restored.

(6) Replacement of the Ferodo always cures squeaks for a time.

This points to the Ferodo being the cause of the squeak and it seems reasonable to overcome the complaint by trying to find a friction lining that behaves more constantly.

The following points can also be made:-
